About Sunrise Ceramics
I started pottery over a year ago and since then I have not wanted to stop. Pottery has always intrigued me growing up, but I never had the opportunity to try it until now. I was gifted with some classes and the intrigue turned into a new found passion. After a few months of classes, and my brother encouraging me to go for it, since he knew I loved it, I decided this was something I want to do and eventually have as my career. I moved home, ordered everything I would need to start (wheel, kiln, clay, glaze and more tools) and patiently waited for things to arrive. Finally, after about 6 months of waiting, I was able to get back into the groove of pottery and continue learning about working with clay.
The name Sunrise Ceramics comes from my moms side of the family, “Sunrise” is a family business name, one that my mom is so proud to have been a part of. For example, my grandparents apple orchard was called Sunrise Orchard (now owned by my uncle), I have an Aunt that owns Sunrise Orchard and Produce, another Aunt owns Sunrise Garden and Guest House and my cousin has Sunrise Photography. So naturally I went with Sunrise Ceramics.
I am someone who believes in sustainable living, so naturally, I like pottery as there is little waste! I can reuse the clay before I fire (ie. if I break something/don’t like something). I add the clay to a bucket of water, dry it out a bit, wedge all the air bubbles out of it, then make a new creation. I like to focus on practical houseware items that can last for ever. I also like to experiment, so please feel free to reach out with your ideas. I look forward to what my future with pottery will be.
